WTF! Happened: Heavy D and the Boyz

Debuting their first album together, "Living Large" in 1987 the group has managed to stay relevant for a good period of time through the late 80's and early 90's. Dwight Myers, aka Heavy D played the role as the leader of the group. Through the great commercial success, one of the members, Troy "Trouble T. Roy" Dixon, passed away in 1990 which led the group into releasing an album dedicated to Troy entitled, Peaceful Journey. Pete Rock & CL Smooth. The dedication album went platinum and included a track called "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y)". Gaining more fame, Heavy D, performed the theme song for the hit television show, "In Living Color" The group never disbanded but Heavy D continued to gain success and fame on his own by doing cameos on television shows and movies such as The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and MADtv. Heavy D has also released solo albums which included collaboration with BB King, Mary J Blige, and Diddy. On October 29, 2011 Heavy D performed on television for the first time in years showing his weight loss, 9 days later Dwight Myers died due to pulmonary embolism. As his music lingers on upon us, Heavy D and the Boyz will always have a spot in hip hop history.
