Chinese Artist Ai Weiwei Prints Out 5 Years of Tweets

A recently completed art piece by Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei, is showcased for the exhibition ‘Go East: The Gene & Brian Sherman Contemporary Asian Art Collection’ at Sydney’s art gallery of new south wales. Entitled 'An Archive' the artwork features five years worth of his tweets printed out onto rice paper. Ai Weiwei states that he was once able to use Twitter as a platform to protest Chinese government oppression, but was eventually banned from the Chinese version of the social media outlet. A total of 6,830 sheets display Ai Weiwei’s Twitter and Blog posts from 2005 – 2013, recounting his memories, musings, and experiences as an activist and artist in China
