Feature'd Album Of The Week: Madvillain "Madvillainy"

Kevin Sanchez

Released in early 2004, Madvillainy was the debut album for hip-hop duo Madvillain, the group consisting of rapper MF Doom and producer Madlib. The album was highly anticipated due to an unfinished leak a few months prior to release. Madvillainy was praised for its unique and innovative approach to hip hop with the use of short tracks, unusual lyrics, very few choruses and a sound that was not popular in commercial radio. The record laid over Madlib's abundance of trippy rhythms and pounding beats while MF DOOM's witty, cunning, and at times kid-like lyrics brought the different styles together.
