Air Jordan 13 Retro ‘Red Flint’ Release April 30th

Air Jordan 13 Retro ‘Red Flint’ Release April 30th

Chelsie Rendon

The Air Jordan 13 has become an impactful sneaker as its unique cat-inspired design offered something new to the market. Developed by the renowned sneaker designer, Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 13 draws inspiration from Michael Jordan’s nickname, ‘Black Cat.’ Taking references from the panther, Hatfield mimics the cat’s whiskers upon the dotted side panels whereas the outsole is supposed to resemble the paws. The signature holographic emblem seen at the ankle is similar to a panther’s eye, giving the shoe an aggressive and unmistakable motif.  Michael Jordan’s cat-like movements are now matched with the perfect shoe that not only looks dignified but also offers optimal performance. Dubbed the most comfortable Jordan model, the sneaker is designed with incredible cushioning. Nike’s Zoom Air technology is placed throughout which is combatted by a carbon fiber midfoot for extra support.

The sneaker allowed Michael Jordan to perform exceptionally well during his last year with the Chicago Bulls letting him leave on a high note and allowing him to focus on other ventures including his role as a businessman. During its release in 1997, Michael Jordan was transitioning from Nike to his formal Jordan Brand and this shoe was his first project that showed the world his capabilities and how they lie outside the world of sports. As we know today, he has created a monstrous brand that has dominated the footwear industry and it only keeps growing as they continue to release new colorways and classic silhouettes.

Making its introduction this year, the Air Jordan 13 Retro is seen in a Gym Red and Flint Grey colorway reminiscent of the original ‘Navy Flint’ 13 released during its debut year. 23 years later and the sneaker reverts to its traditional construction with a mixture of leather and suede upon the upper and a fabric paneling with dented attributes. Its paw-like design is still prevalent within the outsole which protects the integrity of the shoe. Its signature cushioning is found throughout providing a responsive and comfortable experience with each step. Due to its extreme comfort, many sneaker enthusiasts anticipate the 13’s release as it has the capability to be worn all day long.
