Chinatown Market’s most recent delivery includes new graphics along with familiar motifs as the brand revitalizes some of its signature designs. Mike Cherman, the founder of Chinatown Market, had a passion for clothing at a young age and drew inspiration from the environment that surrounded him. After dropping out of Parsons University, Cherman found himself working at the Nike customization store and this is where his love truly developed. He would play with new and vibrant color combinations that will eventually flood into his official designs. After pursuing a stand-alone company and seeing its success, Cherman was able to develop a full-fledged company that would become reputable within many fashion communities.

Since 2016, Chinatown Market has been utilizing graphics and illustrations that take on a whimsical and non-conventional persona. Because of this, many communities have gravitated to its bold colorings and loud patterns.  Tie-dye colorings and striking hues are found within the mixture of clothing as Chinatown Market is known for its playful and vibrant color combinations. The Q1 delivery follows suit as the fashion label introduces artistry upon premium ready-to-wear staples.

A graphic that makes its debut is the Smiley Dry Wall Breaker- in this illustration we see the fashion label’s signature smiley face motif breaking through a ‘wall’ as it embodies the entirety of the garment. The design can be seen upon a crewneck and varying colored t-shirts. In addition to that graphic, the collection also highlights the Bling Arc design. Chinatown Market has varied designs that utilize a collegiate font and styling but the Bling Arc takes it one step further by adding an overlay reminiscent of diamonds. The screen-printed design provides an eye-catching statement with a 2D finish. This particular graphic is placed upon a variety of colored tees including yellow, orange, and neutral colorings such as black and grey.

Another illustration that Chinatown Market draws emphasis towards is the Smiley Local Produce Apple Tee. Showcased in two colorways, White and Peach, the tees are seen taking on old-school produce advertisements. Phrases such as, ‘100% Fresh’ and ‘Local Produce’ reverts to fresh foods like vegetables and fruits but the main graphic of an eaten apple with a worm speaks in the other direction. The juxtaposition of the imagery and script work well together as it reverts to the fashion label’s signature aesthetic. The latest capsule includes graphic-heavy hoodies, crewnecks, and tees perfect for the spring season.
